9th-12th Grade Science Teacher: Upper Valley

IDEA College Prep teachers instruct students in grades 9-12 in core and elective content. All IDEA College Prep teachers are responsible for ensuring that every IDEA student masters the academic and social skills necessary to succeed in college, while also embodying IDEA’s values daily. IDEA College Prep teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and diligently track student data to inform dynamic and effective daily lesson plans. IDEA College Prep teachers seek feedback and continue to develop their teaching practice to better serve IDEA students. We strive to accomplish goal in two ways: by giving students the chance to experience rigorous and challenging material in high school and by giving them the opportunity to gain college-credit through dual-enrollment, AP, or IB courses. 


AP courses at IDEA include:

9th grade- AP Human Geography

10th grade- AP World History, AP Spanish Language

11th grade- AP US History, AP Physics, AP English Language

12th grade- AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP English Literature, AP Government, AP Microeconomics, AP Spanish Literature, AP Studio Art


  • Maintain a strong belief in the commitment of AP for All initiative

  • Implement IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations

  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback

  • Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly

  • Communicate students’ progress with student and family on a weekly basis

  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom

  • Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student

  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs

  • Participate in weekly professional development, grade-level meetings and activities, and school wide meetings and functions

A Typical Day at IDEA:

IDEA College Prep teachers are on duty for the extended school day of 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, however IDEA College Prep teachers typically arrive at 7:00 am and leave at 5:00 pm according to their duty, tutoring, and meeting schedules. IDEA College Prep teachers typically teach 4 periods a day (this looks different for elective and hybrid teachers). Certain Saturday school sessions throughout the school year are also attended by IDEA College Prep teachers. Though they face demanding schedules, all IDEA teachers are strongly supported by dedicated leadership and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution

  • Valid State Teaching Certification is helpful but not required UNLESS applying for a Special Education position

  • Experience in a classroom setting is preferred with the experience working with low-income students

  • Strong knowledge of subject area

  • Proven track record of success in a professional setting

  • Belief in and alignment with IDEA’s mission and values is non- negotiable

Selection Process: After submitting your online application, IDEA will review your materials. Candidates with a track record of success who pass the initial application screening will be invited to a video interview. Candidates who are successful with the video interview will be invited to an in-person interview and sample teaching session with the principal and a hiring committee of the school at which they are under consideration.
